Project Summary
The existing Carondolet Avenue bridge over Indian Creek had signs of scour around its abutment and center pier. Stalworth was hired to remove the debris, clean the creek and set riprap to protect the bridge for future erosion. This work had to be done in stages, always leaving half of the creek open to not disrupt the natural wildlife. In order to do this we came up with a plan using a cofferdam to close half of the bridge at a time. During Stage 1, we first installed a cofferdam between the south abutment and the center pier. Once installed, we proceed with the removal of all the debris, unsuitable material and overgrown vegetation. Afterwards we set filter fabric on the virgin surface and filled it back to its original grade with riprap. Once completed, we proceed to move the cofferdam to the other side and repeat the same steps. Additionally, the erosion was to a point that it produced a hole from the pavement down to the creek, which was also sealed by Stalworth.
